Day 38 – Holy Thursday

It is incredibly amazing to think of the Mighty Savior I have. Truly there is NO ONE that can and will ever compare to Him. No words in the human language and all its various tongues that can describe the greatness of my sovereign Lord.  Jesus has won my heart over completely. If it were only the sacrifice that He made on the cross or the agony He faced in this week of Passion, it would be enough to sustain me for a lifetime and then some. But He continues to blow my mind day after day, in the simple and confound.

On this Holy Thursday, we see the beautiful essence and character of who Jesus really is. As I looked into this day before Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for me, it amazes me to think of where Jesus’ passion truly fell. So many things happened in this Holy Thursday, I cannot imagine all the emotions that were felt all in this one day.

Jesus reclined at a table in a certain man’s house alongside all twelve of His disciples and celebrated the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, a tradition celebrated year after year from the days of Moses. This Passover Supper was no ordinary Passover meal. As Jesus sat with the men that eventually would help change the world, little did they know that they sat alongside the Perfect Sacrifice and Atonement of their sins and of ours. Matthew 26:28, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Jesus washes the feet of His disciples! He took a wash cloth and tired it around His waist and grabbed a basin and poured water into it. He took the disciples dirty feet and removed their shoes and demonstrated to us all that no matter who we think we are; it’s all about the person at your right and your left. The one sitting on the seat next to you in the bus or trolley, the one that sits in the cubical across from you, the one that pass by with a sign asking for your help and the one that you fight with every morning to get out of bed and take them to school without a single thank you; IT’S ABOUT THEM!

Pastor Victor Sealey spoke a powerful message yesterday that accurately described the emotion and anguish that Jesus felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. At the eve of the day that I would think would be the most horrible day of any human being could ever experience, Jesus crucifixion day, He still pleaded for us. He knew the torment and suffering that He would soon endure and still tells the Father, “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” What an amazing act of courage the Jesus demonstrated to us!

Betrayal by a Kiss…who does that? The one that walked with Him, sat and ate with Him day in and day out. A kiss represented a gesture of love and respect, yet this one was filled with pain, disloyalty and betrayal. As if all that Jesus would be facing weren’t enough; this was a small dagger straight into His heart and the added twist of the knife. But this still would not keep Him from the course.

And to think of all the lies and false accusations that He would face before the High Priest and the Sanhedrin. Talk about adding insult to injury; adding salt to an open wound. The boldness that He had to stand and stake His claim as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, is incredible. So many people would have just given in at this point in time but not Him. He withstood it all. What an Amazing Example and a Loving Redeemer. He wasn’t thinking about the recognition or the acknowledgements that He would received. He was thinking about redeeming you and me back to the Father. He was thinking about how He would be the bridge to carriers us back to the Father. He was thinking about how we would no longer be condemned to hell but LIVE an eternity in HEAVEN.

There truly is no greater love…

Love you,
